The Problem Solving Formula for Dogs

BoonGingerIn this month’s newsletter you’ll see an article entitled Interrupt and Redirect: The Problem Solving Formula for Dogs. I chose to write this article at this time because I get a lot of comments from people asking me why their dogs act great for me but like knuckleheads for them. I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about it and I believe there’s a handful of reasons this happens one of which is the types of Interruptions I use.

You see I spend a great deal of time with dogs who did not get the best socialization when they were younger. Because of this, these dogs often react badly when things aren’t predictable or when they feel the response doesn’t fit the behavior (think, punishment doesn’t fit the crime). The amount and type of Interruption used can go a long way to building trust in a relationship – not to mention curbing those problem behaviors.
