marcy and keleMarcy Eckhardt, veteran, Certified Professional Dog Trainer and owner of pranaDOGS, has been working with dogs for more than 2 decades. As a kid, Marcy was always with dogs. Her parents had both family dogs at their house and working dogs at their business. But it wasn’t until Marcy’s world was turned upside down that she began focusing on them above everything else.

At 14 years old, Marcy’s parents lost their home, moved to a new city, and her older brother was killed in a dramatic, public crime in a matter of weeks. The sudden shift from childhood to chaos made her cling for an anchor, something solid she could hold onto; dogs were that anchor.

Marcy continued to focus on dogs through college and while serving in the Air Force as one experience after another pushed her toward animal welfare and her desire to make the world better for the animals that had kept her afloat.

Trying to learn all she can about dogs, Marcy has run a doggie daycare and grooming business, boarding facility, and has worked as veterinary technician. She published the book, The Ripple Effect, A novel exploring the Challenges and Triumphs of running an Animal Shelter in 2011. She is also credited with turning around a four-corners, high-euthanasia shelter in less than a year; dropping euthanasia rates by half and implementing progressive programs and solutions.

Marcy’s passion lies in helping dogs succeed and working with people to communicate better with their dogs. pranaDOGS provides choice-based training and problem solving, and quality care for our best friends.

Marcy is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer-Knowledge Assessed (CPDT-KA). She is also CPR Certified and an AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator. Her past includes years of work in Animal Welfare, Animal Transfer Programs, non-profit Coaching and Consulting and animal husbandry.

pranaDOGS has worked with Durango’s Humane Society: La Plata County Humane Society (LPCHS) for more than four years as their lead trainer. Working with the dogs while they’re between homes, running weekly social hour, and solving post-adoption problems are just some of the many activities pranaDOGS does for the community’s animals.
