Frankie…week 2

Frankie2Lots of changes for little Frankie these days. Mya went home and Sammy came over then left, and Mya came back, then left again later that day. At first after Mya left, Frankie tried to use my kiddos as her surrogate but they would have none of it…not even Boonie – so she reluctantly started to hang with me more and more.

I have also been bringing her on walks around the area. If I’m holding the leash, she’ll walk along behind me – always looking for tall plants or something to walk against (she is not a fan of open spaces) but she’ll walk. She’ll pause now and then but if I bend over and encourage her with my hand, she’ll follow (it helps that she’s so food motivated….having her approach me for food is something we’ve been working on from the beginning).

FrankieOn Thursday I brought her with me to town. We did a few errands together (gotta love a dog-friendly town!) then went to LPCHS. After walking around the building and outside she spent the afternoon in Chris’s office with no desire to venture further, before coming out for Social Hour. As you can see she was quite overwhelmed; but we gave her some safe spaces to hang out and allowed her to watch and experience without being involved. (Also some wonderful people gave her just the right about of human attention! :))

I plan on bringing her back to LPCHS early next week to be put up for adoption but have a few additional issues I’d like worked out before then….1) she still growls anytime a dog approaches, and if she feels trapped she will air snap 2) if I move quickly, her first response is to bolt; if I step on her leash she bolts then turns around and sits facing me – I’d like her to chose the ‘sit down facing me’ without ever bolting option and 3) she’s still very closed down when humans (including me) give her attention -I’d like her to relax just a bit more and enjoy the touch of people.
